Kuwait Banking Association sponsors the UK-GCC Strategic Dialogue in London

As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the presence of the Kuwaiti banking sector in international economic and financial forums, the Kuwait Banking Association (KBA) has announced its sponsorship of the UK–GCC Dialogue, to be held in London on October 20, 2026. Participants from the GCC side will include H.E. Jasem Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC); H.E. Abdulaziz Al-Marzouq, Minister of Investment of the State of Kuwait; H.E. Bader Abdullah Al-Munaikh, Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to the United Kingdom; and H.E. Dr. Raja Al-Marzouqi, Chief Negotiator for the GCC at the GCC General Secretariat. Representing the UK side will be Lord Anas Sarwar, Minister of State for Trade Policy, and Sir Alastair King, the Lord Mayor of London, alongside a distinguished group of economic, banking, and investment leaders, as well as representatives from financial institutions across the GCC and the United Kingdom.

The KBA’s sponsorship of this conference reflects the significance of the economic and financial ties between the GCC states and the United Kingdom. It highlights the opportunities to enhance cooperation in areas such as banking services, investment, capital markets, and sustainable finance, while also addressing developments in financial innovation and the digital transformation of the global banking industry. Furthermore, the conference serves as a vital platform for exchanging insights on the future of GCC-UK economic cooperation and exploring ways to foster partnerships between financial and investment institutions—navigating global economic shifts and the rapid evolution of financial markets—to support shared economic interests. Sheikha Al-Essa, Secretary-General of the Kuwait Banking Association (KBA), is participating in the conference. This participation reflects the Association’s commitment to supporting the international presence of the Kuwaiti banking sector and strengthening its ties with global financial and banking institutions. Such engagement aims to uncover new opportunities for partnerships and investment, while serving the interests of Kuwaiti banks and enhancing their competitiveness at both the regional and international levels.

Strategic Partnerships and Promising Opportunities

On this occasion, Sheikha Al-Essa, Secretary-General of the Kuwait Banking Association, stated: “Economic and financial relations between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the United Kingdom represent a significant model for strategic partnerships built on shared interests and long-term cooperation. We believe the period ahead holds promising opportunities to deepen collaboration across the banking, investment, and capital market sectors—contributing to economic growth and fostering investment flows between both sides.”

She added that the GCC banking sector has firmly established itself as an active partner within the international finance and investment ecosystem, underpinned by strong financial solvency, advanced institutional expertise, and an increasing capacity to adapt to economic and technological shifts. She noted that collaborating with British financial institutions offers valuable opportunities to exchange expertise, develop financial services and products, and capitalize on available investment prospects. Al-Essa emphasized that the Kuwaiti banking sector possesses a robust financial and institutional foundation, alongside extensive banking expertise. This has enabled the sector to forge broad relationships with international financial institutions, thereby enhancing its capacity to develop cross-border partnerships, support trade and investment flows, and provide banking and financing solutions that keep pace with evolving market needs.

Digital Transformation and the Future of the Banking Industry

Al-Essa noted that the rapid transformations currently reshaping the global banking industry—most notably artificial intelligence, modern financial technologies (fintech), and digital transformation—underscore the growing importance of fostering cooperation and knowledge exchange among financial institutions. Such collaboration contributes to the development and increased efficiency of banking services, while ensuring the sector is well-prepared to meet future demands.

She further highlighted that the rising global focus on sustainable finance and the development of capital markets presents significant opportunities for collaboration between Gulf and British financial institutions. This includes the creation of innovative financial products and solutions that support economic growth and address the needs of future markets.

Strengthening the International Presence of the Kuwaiti Banking Sector

In her concluding remarks, Al-Essa affirmed that the Kuwait Banks Association continues its efforts to bolster the international presence of the Kuwaiti banking sector. These initiatives aim to build sustainable strategic partnerships, enhance the competitiveness of Kuwaiti banks, open new avenues for cooperation and investment, and solidify Kuwait’s position as a trusted and influential partner within the regional and international financial ecosystem.
